Always study your builder. For some odd reason Theres always a new shop popping up every year, seems like every month now since the Hobby became popular. Just because someone opened there shop doesn't mean they know how to build cars.
Every experienced kitcar builder should always be able to show you past work they done and not just show you the car they are selling.
Some cars have been handed to new owners before the car has ever been finished. This you really have to look out for because the trail of inexperience has been handed over and over and if you buy it you will end up with several people who attempted to build the car and now your the new owner of several peoples experiment.
If someone tells you that there the best builder in the hobby than that's your Que to Run as far as you can. There is not one best way to build these cars. Most likely this guy is only concerned about making a quick sale.
Never pay for a car in full before pick up unless you know who your dealing with. Especially E-bay. I sometimes sell on ebay but for the most part be careful. I use it for fast advertising. I don't really trust the buyers on ebay because for the most part I don't know of anyone who bid on my car that really had intentions to pay. I usually cancel the winner of my cars and relist to get back on ebay. For the most part people bidding and not paying only allows me to get a free ad credited from ebay. Kinda strange but this is my experience. I don't take ebay buyers seriously unless I know for sure they are serious.
Although forums and chat rooms are good for tips and information it's not always the best solution for learning about builders. There are always reputable people on the forums. The best thing to do is check to see how long they been apart of the forum and read about there comments. There are only a small handful of reputable people that you can do business with but for the most part 90% plus are newbies and will either damage a reputable builders reputation or discourage you from making a good honest decision. You'll easily identify newbies by there struggles to build but yet claim they are number one in the industry.
Carefully look at the pics they are showing you. Scammers tend to post the same pics over and over and even go as far as stealing pics to make a sale. I personally don't post most of my pics for the simple fact that I value my work and I will do anything to exploit anyone stealing my pics to create fraud. This happens to me every year. Some new and even some who claim to be pro builders steal my pics.
Always ask to see more pics of the car and pay attention to the background. An experience builder should have the same or similar back ground in most there pics. This is the same for unfinished builds. Some people are reputable and sell partial builds to help out.
Do not trust newbies opinions or claims. I have heard so many horror stories of people taking over projects and they freak out and start bad mouthing the person they bought there unfinished car from.
LETS KEEP IT REAL. There is alot of work when building these cars. If you buy an unfinished car from an experienced builder than take the time to learn how much work it takes to finish these cars before you say bad things about them. As an example I sold alot of partials builds to help out and only 1 Newbie gave me a bad name in
Kitcentral. I been building these cars for over a decade and it scares me to sell any car to a newbie amateur. This is a volcano of inexperience bad mouthing waiting to explode.
If you buy a partial build keep in mind that your not buying a turnkey with everything looked at and fixed especially from a 20+ year old donor. If everything was looked at and fixed than your probably better off buying a turnkey so your inexperience doesnt effect you financially and emotionally.
Donor cars are good starts but for the most part the build is the most important thing. You can always upgrade or fix the donor with over the counter parts yourself so even if the donor does not function right it's very inexpensive to get it running good. Don't spend the extra money to have your builder bolt on new parts for your 20+ year old donor. This is where the so called pro shops tend to take advantage of the unfamiliar buyer.
Don't always believe what your read in forums and kitcar advertising sites.
Especially Kitcar.com that site has to be the biggest joke around. Its Care taker
Curt Scott is an idiot and really needs to do some homework before making permanent suggestions that soon might land him in the court room especially if hes getting paid for advertising. always call your builder and make sure they can talk to you about every detail of the car. Some sites such as
Kitcar.com Make money on advertising but yet have all the wrong info about the legitamacy of builders.
Example. If you log onto
kitcar.com and search
exoticmotorsports. It shows there that I am a shop and that I claim to be the number 1 builder of kitcars. This amazes me but I'm not surprised. I have never retailed, never been a shop, and especially never claimed I was #1. All my work is done by myself and I do this from the comfort of my home garage. All my cars I build I build for myself so I have no one else to please other than me. On occasion I sell partial builds to make room or to help out someone getting into the Hobby.
The funny part is I actually ran adds on his site under exoticmotorsports and they posted my adds and took my money. What a Joke!!!
Shops always end up on the Scammers Chopping block. Although Shops have good intentions to run a business most are start up business and they do not know the extent of work involved in building and selling. So the focus and the love for kitcar build is lost. Most start up shops will be on the scammers list within a few months and shut there doors. The best cars to buy are from people in it for the hobby so you know they used heart and love to make the car not a way to make quick cash.
Building a Lamborghini Replica Kit Car
Have you ever seen Idiots especially on ebay selling instructions on how to build these cars. First of all there is not one way and second every car is different so don't waste your money. JUST FOR FUN CALL ONE OF THESE GUYS AND ASK THEM IF THEY EVER USED THEIR OWN HOW TO GUIDE AND AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY. AFTER THAT ASK FOR A PICTURE OF THEIR CAR. IF THEY SAY YES TO YOU AND THEY ACTUAL SHOW YOU A PICTURE. Call me asap so we can laugh about it together.
Just because you can turn a wrench doesnt mean you can build a KitCar. My Daughter can turn a wrench it doesnt mean she knows how to build. You Get My point. I don't care if you owned shops and cars or even have a license to fix cars. I don't even care if you seen one of my cars in person. The money, knowledge and commitment will drag you to bankruptcy and disappointment if you don't pay attention to what I'm saying. If you have unfinished projects in your shop or garage not finished to this day what makes you think you'll finish this one. If your still wrenching on the same car you've had for 20+ years what makes you think this will be any easier. Dudes Tuck your Man balls in and drop the ego. Be Smart when making this decision and don't let your Man Balls and Ego be the reason you build these cars. In other works Don't be Stupid. Try building a hot rod or import first from scratch before you tackle on this project it will save you tons of time, money and frustrations. And you get to keep your Man Balls.
First of all know what your getting into. Its easier to rebuild a custom production car or hot rod than it is to build a kitcar. 95% of kitcar builders will never see there car on the road. 95% will be resold to the next newbie, 95% will spend more money time and frustrations because they got way over there head.
Always learn before taking on a project like this. The cost to build a good car in parts alone will be around 30K anything below that to me is not worth the build you'll end up with Crap.
Every Inch of the car is hand fabricated. So how much room and experience in fab work do you have? If your current car still has the same shitty fender and rusted bucket paint job how you gonna finish this car and detail it to look like a Lambo
Talk to a hobbyist and pay a visit. Most guys like me are friendly and will always lend a helping hand.
If they charge you for there time than run the other way.
Don't be afraid to pay for help on the build such as doors and chassis. This will make your life easier as long as the person is reputable.
Have a good woman who is ok with you spending most of your free time in the garage. This takes a toll on alot of families. I have had friends who literally had a divorce because no time was spent on the relationship and financially drained there bank account.
Learn the basics, Welding, Fiberglass, Fabricating ETC. Don't be afraid to fail. Failing was the most important part to my builds the more I failed and restarted the more I learned.
Don't Rush the project. Let time and your perfection build the car. It's cheaper and easier to do it right than to hack an already finished painted car.
Stay away from Know it all people. These are the guys who always seems to know everything. These guys have no clue what your getting into. These guys will only cause you to buy or do something that will most likely not work for your custom car. Especially if they're still playing around with the same old family beater that they cherish to this day. I don't get it but to this day I get people telling me how I should build my car and whats best for it when they never even built a replica before.
Buying your first Lamborghini Replica Kit Car body kit
Before buying a Lamborghini Replica Kit Car body kit make sure the seller can show you a completed car with the kit on it. If they can't That should be a red Flag but not always. Some people just sell kits and don't build so for this reason make sure they can show you someone who's finished there kit before you end in the hole by not having parts ready available such as glass Lights other misc. These are reason for not having the right look, wasting money, and the worst never be able to finish the car. So Ask your seller these questions.
1. Can I see a finished car. Pictures alone may or may not work Depends on the seller.
2. Where can I get parts and what original parts such as lights and glass sets.
3. whats the wheels base and donor required to make the car work unless your building a complete tube.
4. If you don't have a finished car can you show me who's finished one of your kits.
This is a great start to make sure you can complete your car the safest way possible.
